Kihon Kumite
Kihon (Yakusoku) Kumite is a series of techniques in which the traditional ideas of martial arts (budo)
are applied.
In Kihon Kumite we train the principles of Taisabaki, Kawashi, Nogare, Nagashi and Irimi.
Taisabaki (Body Control)
Body movement and control.
Kawashi (Avoiding)
Avoiding your opponent's attack rather than meeting it with your own power.
Nogare (Escaping)
Avoiding your opponent's attack by escaping out of range.
Nagashi (Sweeping Away)
Blocking techniques are used in the nagashi form to 'bring on' your opponent's attack.
Irimi (Entering)
Moving in closer to your opponent so that your counterattck will be in range - this can be performed at the same time as your opponent attacks.
